(RDJ) - Ruth Doris Jacobson Collection - Digital Collection of digital photographs of three scrapbooks of Ruth Doris Jacobson, taken July 2009 by Laurel Schwartz: 1964-1978; 1979-1983; 1981-1996. Having served in the US Coast Guard SPARS during WWII, Ruth Doris Jacobson became actively involved with Jewish War Veterans of America. In 1970 she activated the dormant San Diego Post #185 of Jewish War Veterans of America after her arrival in San Diego in 1968. Ruth Served as Post Commander for 17 years. Among many assignments, she also served as Adjutant, Quartermaster, Chairman of the Poppy Drive, Chairman of the Budget Committee, and post photographer. She held offices on State and National Jewish War Veterans Committee and helped organize the Catholic War Veterans Post in San Diego. Ruth was instrumental in creating and opening San Diego's Veterans Museum in Balboa Park.
